DPS Travel Grants

A small number of travel grants for the 2005 DPS meeting are available. These are primarily aimed at students but post-doctoral scientists without other means of support will also be considered. Grants will consist of $500 plus a waiver of registration fees. Preference will be given to those who have not received a DPS travel grant in the past.

The application package should be no longer than the equivalent of five pages, and contain the following:

A copy of the abstract of the paper to be presented at the meeting. Both oral and poster papers are eligible. Note that the abstract must also be officially submitted to the AAS by the regular submission process by Friday 1^st July 2005.

A brief letter by the applicant describing the scientific significance of the research and any further justification for attending the meeting (e.g. job hunting)

A brief letter of endorsement by the advisor, confirming the need for travel assistance and the unavailability of full travel support from other sources.

A brief CV, including degree status.

The deadline for submission of the application for a travel grant is Friday 17^th June 2005. This date was chosen so that applicants will know if they have travel support before the official abstract deadline.

The complete application package should be sent as a single e-mail attachment (in PDF, PostScript, or plain text format) to the DPS Vice-Chair, Dr. Richard G. French (rfrench@wellesley.edu). The subject line of the e-mail must read "DPS Travel Grant", and the name of the attached application file must include the last name of the applicant (e.g. "RFrench_DPStravel.pdf").

Applications will be read by members of the DPS committee, and the decision on travel grants will be communicated to all applicants prior to the abstract deadline of Friday 1^st July 2005.
