Physics Teachers' Cambridge Residential

From the 30th June - 2nd July 2012 the Cavendish Laboratory will host the second FREE physics residential course for teachers which will provide teachers with the resources and ideas behind the Senior Physics Challenge. This residential event is kindly sponsored by The Ogden Trust and will provide all delegates with free evening meals and free accommodation in a Cambridge college.

Course Aims and Objectives
  • We are aware that there are many talented students who are unable to attend the student SPC as we just do not have the spaces to host them. We hope that this opportunity will enable teachers to take the SPC back to school and into the classroom by providing attending teachers with the relevant resources. For example; current information about admissions and Cambridge physics research, example sheets and experimental ideas.

  • For teachers to gain firsthand experience on the Cambridge collegiate system by staying and dining in a Cambridge college and seeing the base of physics research in Cambridge - the Cavendish laboratory. The programme will include a session on Cambridge admissions from those at the front-line i.e. directors of studies in physics and admissions interviewers.

  • We are keen to discuss ideas and concepts with teachers to further understand students. conceptual difficulties and bridge the gap between A-level and university physics.

  • An inspirational environment in which to discuss physics and physics education with like minded teachers, time out from school to refresh, think in alternative ways and experiment.

  • This insight into the SPC takes place just before the students begin their 2011 course and therefore there will be opportunity to see some of the country's most talented physics students in action.
